Call for Nominations

The Provost’s Office invites applications and nominations, including self-nominations, for the position of Deputy Provost for Undergraduate Education (DPUE) reporting directly to the Provost. The DPUE works with the Provost on strategic leadership of academic programs, policies, and initiatives relating to undergraduate education, assessment, and accreditation. In addition to assisting the Provost with academic planning, the DPUE will work with the Provost, Deans, and Associate Deans on strengthening the quality of undergraduate academic programs and academic advising across the university. The DPUE also works with the faculty and other academic leadership to enhance critical and distinctive aspects of Lehigh’s undergraduate education. The DPUE will serve as an advocate for the undergraduate academic experience, coordinating with faculty and academic leaders including student affairs to ensure that all Lehigh undergraduate students have access to excellent support and academic advising and are able to engage in high impact educational opportunities.

The DPUE will have a deep knowledge of current issues facing higher education and should have a keen interest in working collaboratively with colleagues in the colleges to support the creation and enhancement of policies and programs that lead to outstanding outcomes for all Lehigh students, including students of all races, genders and socio-economic groups. Unlike the former DPAA, the DPUE will not oversee RAS or enrollment services to allow this new position to focus on tasks that are more closely related to our academic programs and mission.

The Deputy Provost for Undergraduate Education is a hybrid role which incorporates the privileges accorded to a tenured faculty member with the guidelines and classification of a university exempt staff member. The DPUE retains all the rights and privileges accorded a tenured faculty member as articulated in the Rules and Procedures of the Faculty of Lehigh University. Because of the nature of this position, applicants must be tenured faculty members at Lehigh University. Deputy Provost appointments are usually for three years, and in many cases may be renewed for an additional three-year term.
