Jackie Krasas

The Deputy Provost for Faculty Affairs (DPFA) works in close partnership with the deans, vice provosts, academic department chairs, faculty senate, and other members of the university leadership team. The DPFA serves as a liaison to ensure effective two-way communications between the provost's office and Lehigh's faculty and its academic standing committees. The deputy provost's areas of responsibility include shared governance and faculty career development.
Jackie Krasas is an alumnus of Lehigh earning her bachelor of arts degree in social relations in 1987. She earned her master’s degree and Ph.D. in sociology with a specialty in gender studies from the University of Southern California. Prior to her arrival at Lehigh, she served for 10 years as a faculty member in the department of labor and employment relations at Penn State, where she also directed the master’s program in industrial relations and human resources.
Dr. Krasas is a faculty member in the department of sociology and anthropology, and has served as associate dean of interdisciplinary programs and international initiatives in the College of Arts and Sciences. She has worked on curriculum design, program leadership development, and special projects with directors and faculty for more than 20 interdisciplinary programs in the College. She arrived at Lehigh in 2005 as the first full-time dedicated director of the Women’s Studies Program (now Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies), and she teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses.
Her scholarship focuses on gender, race and employment inequality, masculinities, work and family, sexual harassment, and non-standard work. Her 2000 book, Temps: The Many Faces of the Changing Workplace, analyzes the rise in temporary employment and the experience of temporary workers in terms of race, gender, power, and identity. Her forthcoming book, to be published by Cornell University Press, explores the changing landscape of contemporary motherhood through the lens of child custody.
Appointed as Lehigh’s Deputy Provost for Faculty Affairs in July of 2020, Dr. Krasas assists the provost across a wide variety of faculty protocols and projects, including shared governance, policies for faculty appointments and retention; reappointment, tenure and promotion reviews and the policies and procedures under which they occur; professional development programs for Lehigh faculty members; and the university’s work-life balance support policies, through to and including faculty retirement.
